One of the Three Wise Monkeys, the hear no evil monkey is known as Kikazaru (Japanese meaning "hear not"). A brown monkey face with its hands over its ears is depicted.

The saying "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" is symbolized by the Three Wise Monkeys and is often taken to mean exercising caution or choosing deliberate ignorance. frequently used to jokingly say, "I can't believe what I'm hearing!" or, in a broader sense, to convey shock or incredulity.
