a yellow face with broad, open smile that exposes the tongue and upper teeth on some platforms, along with plain, open eyes. frequently expresses joy in general, gladness, or humor.

�� Grinning Face With Big Eyes and �� Grinning Face With Smiling Eyes, on the other hand, feature identical smiles but with more expressive eye shapes. A cat version of this emoji is called �� Grinning Cat Face.

In 2012, the smiling face was accepted for inclusion in Unicode 6.1, and in 2015, it was added to Emoji 1.0.
